Average incomes and loan protection down, despite lowest unemployment levels for six years

This weekend, The Independent on Sunday featured the launch of our Financial Fragility and Confidence report. The article included statistics from The Office for National Statistics which reported that the number of people out of work in the UK had hit its lowest level in more than 6 years, dropping to 1.91 million in the three months to November. The report also indicated that earnings were up 1.8 per cent compared with the same month in the previous year.

Despite this, average incomes are still well-below pre-financial crisis levels, so our report’s findings that 92 per cent of people have no insurance in place to protect their loans is worrying.
